Matt Ramos chosen as the Firefighter of the Year!

The American Legion Post #123 is excited to announce the 2016 Firefighter of the Year has been awarded to Firefighter Matt Ramos. Matt is the 45th Springfield Fire Department member to receive this prestigious Firefighter of the Year award.
Matt began his career with the Springfield Fire Department in 2005. His ongoing dedication and attitude exemplifies the face of the Springfield Fire Department.
Matt has proven himself in the fire service and as one of the department’s EMS instructor coordinators. He has participated faithfully with Department and Union activities to promote a positive environment for department members. He has also taken on the enormous task of monitoring and assisting department members with health benefit issues.
On the job, Matt has used his knowledge and skill to revive multiple patients in cardiac arrest. He has made a significant impact on his community and often puts community welfare before himself. He enjoys helping others and teaching life-saving skills. On his days off, Matt gives back to the community by teaching individuals, groups, and business employees first aid, AED use, and CPR that could help save a life.
A dinner in Matt's honor will be held on November 22nd.
