Thank you for your interest. I am honored to work on behalf of the people of Springfield and welcome this opportunity to share my background and experience with you.

I spent my first two years on the Council serving as Chair of the Rules Committee, making recommendations on dedicated residents who wanted to serve on our local oversight committees, and as a member of the Budget & Finance Committee, working with multiple stakeholders throughout the City to pass a values-based budget thoughtfully and responsibly.

I also serve as Chair of the City and School District Joint Select Committee. Public education is a passion of mine, and I continue to advocate for our children and youth. I want to ensure that we are increasing resources and dollars to our schools while supporting partnerships with the Springfield Unified School District. I led the authorization and strengthening of the Public Education and Enrichment Fund, which allocated $47.5 million just this past year alone in critical City funding for school libraries, arts, sports, and music. We have a responsibility to invest in the education and success of our youth.

In addition, I serve on the Transbay Joint Powers Authority, the body that oversees the design, construction, and operation of the new Transit Center, which is currently in construction.

Everyday, I feel fortunate to have this opportunity to serve -- I believe in public service and working to make local government policy processes and services accessible and engaging. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do this work. One of the most rewarding parts of the job is meeting so many dedicated community leaders, neighborhood advocates, organizers, and individuals who care deeply about our neighborhoods and city, whether it is making them safer or more equitable.

I am also fortunate, as many of you know, to work with an exceptionally dedicated, smart, and hard-working team of individuals passionate about serving you. You can find their contact info on the Staff Page. It is a tough job, and there is much that our office wants to accomplish in order to continue to make Springfield safer, healthier, and stronger. We can only do this work with you.

Sincerely,
Jane

Supervisor Kim Pushes A Budget Prioritizing Youth, Seniors & Family Stabilization

Though we emerged from City Hall budget night negotiations well before last year's epic 5:30 AM vote, it was another long night putting together a budget that encompassed our community values. The Board of Supervisors came to a consensus on a budget that laid out a clear set of priorities for the City.

Within District 4, Supervisor Kim prioritized youth and senior budget needs including increasing after-school programming, senior nutrition and services and public activation funds for Victoria Manalo Draves Park.

Citywide, she led the Board in advocating for funds to develop a new Transitional Age Youth housing project at 5th Street and Harrison Street, which will put 44 units online for homeless youth integrating back into the workforce in September.  In addition, our office prioritized filling over $3M in federal cuts to our HIV/AIDS programs, funding $1M for rapid re-housing/short-term rental subsidies for individuals and families facing homelessness, $1M for enhanced homeless shelter services and $900K for job training programs.  Supervisor Kim also successfully advocated for expanding Department of Building Inspection outreach and enforcement to ensure safer housing conditions in our neighborhoods.

Pedestrian safety also continues to be a priority-- our office is partnering with the Mayor to fund a traffic calming pilot on Sixth Street, which has the highest rate of vehicle-pedestrian collisions in the City.

THANK YOU to the community for turning out a strong District 4 presence throughout this budget process!  Your advocacy helped ensure critical funding for our District  priorities!
